Morning all. I've made a change to my routine, having decided that its more productive for me to do my domestics first, business and internet afterwards. Getting an earlier start has been helpful lately too!
And J.C. on a stick! what a racket round here! The power went out for the second time in two weeks in our area. This sets off the building alarm, both when the power cuts out and again when it comes back on. We're in an apartment building so if someone isn't home, there's no one to reset that particular flat's alarm. It has to wail out its default setting. 20 minutes in this case. Not a well thought out set up in my view. I've mentioned this to our normally good landlord, but he isn't fussed. Says that's how the system works. Then again, he lives miles away so he's not disturbed is he.
This violation of every noise-bylaw in the books went on from 9:30 pm til 12:45 a.m. last night. The power would come back on, then go out again. Ergo, the alarms were on-off-on-off. Needless to say, we didn't get an early night. It wasn't the lack of electricity I minded. On the contrary, we lit candles and had a cozy chat between the blare of essentially useless security. The authorities refuse to respond to unchecked alarms, even on a business premises. A burgular could take his time, choosing only the best bits to steal. Hell, he could order a pizza while he was at it.
I have a great example of this stupidity from an acquaintance in Scotland. A building alarm next door to them went off one day, out of the blue. The owners were away on vacation and the thing howled for, get this..........three days. Complaints to the police, City Hall et al, produced no results. Eventually someone was able to track down the owners who sent a relative to reset the offending device. Yet your insurance company will give you a discount if your home and vehicle is alarmed. I guess all that matters is appearances.
Now this morning there's an alarm somewhere near us that's been howling for well over an hour. It may or may not stop before the owners show up to do something about it. I've decided we may as well be living in London or similar. It couldn't be much more crowded, dirty, noisy or full of miserable people! Gah!
Never mind. This too shall pass! Hubby's business will do well and we can get the heck out of the urban blight. I hope you're having a better day!
Edit: 07.17 - power went out AGAIN today for an hour. We gave up and just went for a walk.

Nice to know you are safe. Pffffft.
I have had an alarm incident myself but it is too long to go into here. Lets just say it involved a broom, an alarm and me 8 months pregnant.
Affirmative action. That's what we need. Trust me I'd love to have a shotgun on days like this. The damn thing went for four hours before the idiot owner showed up to turn it off. Then two more started wailing shortly after that, they stopped and as I type this, there's another one going. It isn't usually this bad. Coincidence or ?

A baseball bat or sledgehammer might be handy. Not only could it ward off would be burglars, you could bash the heck out of the alarm system that goes off. Or the owner of that particular alarm system. (Whichever you happen to find first.) :> )
